For activewear and swimwear, cost and development timeline depend on product category, fabric, construction, size range, order quantity, logo method, packaging and quality requirements. The more complete your project brief is, the faster the manufacturer can evaluate feasibility, suggest options and prepare a quotation.
This guide explains what to send before starting an activewear or swimwear OEM/ODM project.
- Product Category
Start by telling the manufacturer what product you want to develop. Examples include leggings, sports bras, yoga tops, training shorts, one-piece swimsuits, bikinis, tankinis, swimdresses, rash guards or plus-size swimwear.
If you are planning a full collection, list each style separately. This helps the factory understand the scope of the project.
- Reference Photos or Sketches
Reference photos are very helpful, especially if you do not have a complete tech pack. You can send competitor products, moodboard images, sketches, screenshots or previous samples.
When sending references, explain what you like about each image. Is it the silhouette, strap design, waistband, fabric texture, color, coverage or styling? This helps avoid misunderstanding.
- Tech Pack if Available
A tech pack is useful, but not every buyer has one. If you have a tech pack, include measurements, construction details, fabric information, colorways, size range, logo placement and packaging requirements.

- Estimated Order Quantity

- Logo and Branding Requirements
Private-label products usually require logo labels, heat transfer logos, embroidery, silicone logos, printed logos, care labels, hangtags or branded packaging.
Send logo files if available and explain where the logo should be placed. Also mention whether you need neck labels, size labels, care labels, hangtags, polybags or carton marks.
- Selling Channel
The selling channel affects packaging, content and product data requirements. Tell the manufacturer whether you will sell on Amazon, Shopify, TikTok Shop, wholesale, boutique retail or another platform.
For Amazon, barcode and FNSKU requirements may need to be discussed. For Shopify or DTC brands, brand packaging and product storytelling may be more important.
- Target Price and Market Position
If you have a target retail price or target production cost, share it with the manufacturer. This helps the factory recommend realistic fabric and construction options.
A premium brand and a budget marketplace product may need different solutions.
- Launch Timeline
Share your target launch date or delivery timeline. The factory can then help plan sample development, revisions, bulk production, packaging and shipment.
If you need AI-assisted visuals, listing content or packaging support, include that in the timeline as well.
